The FPVFC is lobbying congress to change the FAA rules so that the lower limit for registration will be one kilogram (2.2 lb.) instead of the current 250 grams (.55 lb.). Remote ID (RID) is tied to aircraft registration, and RID will not be required for aircraft below the lower weight limit under current rules. It’s hard to say how successful this effort may be, but it looks like a step in the right direction toward easing the regulatory burden on our hobby. In case you’re wondering, the 250-gram rule has no basis in risk assessment for model aircraft, but is an arbitrary limit based on 19th century information pertaining to ballistic weapons.
