Dinner & December Meeting

The FHRCC Christmas Dinner was held on December 16th with 16 members and guests in attendance. Service at the Italian Grille was strikingly slow, but the food was great once it arrived, and the fellowship in the interim was top notch. Ballots for the club’s 2024 officers were collected, and it was determined that we’d wait until the January 1 fun fly to finalize the election results, so that those not in attendance might have a chance to throw the bums out. It’s my sad duty to report that the results remained unchanged, and you’re stuck with the same roster of officers as last year:
- President: Mike Eden
- Vice President: Steve DiPiazza
- Treasurer: Don Cipolla
- Safety Officer: Chuck Harper
- Secretary: Joe Blizzard
Frozen Fingers Fun Fly

Our annual Frozen Fingers Fun Fly was held on New Year’s Day with 13 of us braving the weather. It was cold and overcast and it drizzled snow most of the day, but we had no accumulation and winds were light. Four pilots participated in the main competitive portion of the festivities, which included the following events:
- 30 second climb and glide
- Timed aerobatic flight (3 each left and right rolls & inside and outside loops)
- Taxiing barrel Race
- Russian Carrier Launch (Takeoff roll onto a ramp, cut the throttle at the end of the ramp, and the longest glide wins.)
The final event was a glider toss which was open to all. Final results for all five events were as follows:
- Don Huffman
- Chuck Harper
- Mike Eden
- Terry Burdette
- Dave Ellis
Dave Ellis provided the historical photo below to show us what the Flying Hillbillies’ Frozen Finger Fun Fly events used to look like back in his younger days, during the Pleistocene glaciation period which began two and a half million years ago:
