A meeting was held at the field, 10 am, Saturday, August 22, 2026. Everyone expressed heartfelt sympathies at the unfortunate passing of VP Steve DiPiazza’s wife, Nancy.

James Vannoy, VP of the Putnam Co Parks Board, and President Mike Eden will work on a proposal to replace the deteriorated chain link fences at the field. The replacement is expected to be subsidized by advertising signage attached to the new fences, similar to what can be seen at Valley Park in Hurricane. The proposal will be presented at an upcoming meeting. It was the consensus among those present that some of the fence sections should be eliminated altogether, particularly the two East-West oriented sections near the shelter. The useable area of the field continues to shrink as the trees and other vegetation around the perimeter encroach. Mitigation options discussed included moving the flight line and potentially installing a geotextile runway alongside the existing asphalt runway.

Chuck Harper volunteered to bring a Kayak to next Saturday’s Float Fly to serve as a recovery boat.

We discussed cleaning up the clutter in the shelter area. There are broken chairs, an old grill, and several other things that need to be hauled to the dump. Mike suggested that we do away with the trash receptacles in the shelter area (which are currently full) and adopt a policy of “pack out what you pack in” to keep the area clean. During club events we’ll use temporary waste bins which will be removed after the event.

Also discussed were repairs to the leaky roof of the Conex mower shed, and repair or replacement of the wooden shed. If you know of one or more generous and fabulously wealthy benefactors who might be interested in the hobby, please encourage them to join the club. Also remain on the lookout for young, strong, healthy, potential members who might be willing to make themselves available for mowing and work parties.

A little flying took place after the meeting was adjourned, followed by yet another heavy rain downpour. (Sigh…)
